State trooper hit by vehicle while assisting disabled motorist

On Behalf of | Apr 12, 2018 | Car Accidents

Each day, Massachusetts State Troopers work to keep communities safe and to render aid to those who are in need. They put their lives on the line to make sure that others are out of harm’s way and work long hours to offer assistance when called upon.

Recently, a trooper in Stoneham was on Interstate 93 doing these duties when a terrible accident occurred. The trooper was out of the police cruiser and helping a driver whose car had become disabled when a second car hit the trooper’s cruiser. The collision caused the trooper to be struck by one of the involved vehicles and to suffer back and neck injuries. They were taken to a local hospital for treatment, and their condition is unknown at this time.

The incident in this story occurred late in the evening and it appears that the driver of the vehicle that caused this tragic collision to occur stayed at the scene of the crash for the investigation. Although the driver has not yet been charged with any crimes, they may still be held liable for the damages that they caused when their vehicle crashed into the cruiser, causing personal and property-based losses.

Individuals who are the cause of motor vehicle accidents can be held liable for the harm they cause through personal injury-based lawsuits. As the victim of an accident a person may plead that they suffered losses and harm and that those damages were the result of the responsible party’s conduct. The trooper in this story may therefore have options to pursue their medical expenses, lost wages and other possible damages from the driver who collided with their cruiser.
