A fatal accident in a neighboring community northeast of Worcester recently claimed the life of a 67-year old pedestrian. While walking alongside the roadway, the victim was struck and killed by a pickup truck. The victim was pronounced dead at the hospital following the fatal accident. Authorities are investigating the accident and reviewing evidence and witness accounts of what occurred, leading to the fatal accident.

A wrongful death cause of action may be available to family members when a loved one has been killed in an accident caused by another party’s negligence. In addition to the emotional harm they suffer after losing a loved one in an accident, family members may also face unexpected financial challenges as well. Because of the extensive nature of the harm families may suffer following a fatal accident and the wrongful loss of a loved one, legal protections exist to help protect families.

Depending on the circumstances and characteristics of the victims, families may suffer medical expenses, funeral expenses, the loss of support and services or the loss of the loved one’s income. A wrongful death claim can allow the family of the lost loved one to recover compensation for the damages suffered. Compensation is based on the specific harm the family has suffered related to the deep personal loss the family has endured.

When a loved one has been wrongful killed by the careless or reckless actions of another individual, it is important for families to understand they may not have to continue to suffer entirely without options or remedies. The legal process is prepared to aid families in the ways it is able following the tragic and unexpected loss of a loved one.
