Massachusetts car accident results in death and serious injury

On Behalf of | Feb 7, 2014 | Car Accidents

Car accident victims, and family members of victims, should understand that the legal process seeks to protect victims.

A woman was recently killed in the greater Boston area when a mattress fell off of a truck and caused a two-car accident. According to authorities, when the mattress flew off the truck, a vehicle stopped abruptly to avoid the mattress. Another vehicle ran into the back of the stopped vehicle. A 56-year old woman died from the injuries she suffered in the car accident. A victim in the other car was taken to the hospital with injuries. The accident reconstruction unit from the State Police is investigating the accident. The vehicle that lost the mattress did not stop and is being sought by police.

Unfortunately, we are all aware that injuries and death can result from a car accident. Because of this, legal remedies are available to injured victims of a car accident, as well as family members. When a victim has been severely injured in a car accident, future medical care and costs, lost wages and lost-earning capacity may also be available.

Family members of victims killed in a car accident may be able to recover damages for funeral expenses, loss of support and services, as well as other types of damages particular to the nature of the accident and characteristics of the victim. Even in the case of a hit and run driver, recovery may be available through an uninsured or underinsured motorist policy.

Negligent drivers who cause injury or other harm to others on the roadway may be liable for damages to the injured. A trained personal injury attorney can help both victims and family members of victims bring a claim for damages.
